'I will not drown in debt for you': Woman Backs Out of Moving in With Boyfriend After He Buys an $87K Car Behind Her Back
As much as I think it is incredibly romantic when a guy pays for dinner, buys flowers, and invests in all these lovely gestures, it is even more appealing to me to know that he thinks twice before spending money, and knows how to manage his financial state. It means nothing to me if a guy buys me dinner but is unable to pay his rent because he keeps spending money on luxury things. In short, financial irresponsibility is a huge red flag.
This woman wrote this Reddit story after she realized just how financially irresponsible her boyfriend was. A month before they plan on moving in together, boyfriend goes out and buys an $87k car, without even running it by his girlfriend (OP, original poster). OP, who is shocked and disappointed, decides to back out of moving in with him, claiming that she doesn't want to end up paying for everything in the apartment when her boyfriend is too busy paying off his unnecessarily expensive car.
