This is what happens when you try to manipulate the employees you rely on the most! So many managers think they can get away with unnecessary outbursts, lectures, and mind games, yet what they don't anticipate is what could happen if the employee they are currently messing with just decides to up and leave one day.
Here, we have an employee who was voluntarily fixing any bugs in the company's sister without extra payment as this was not expressly a part of his job description. His new manager decided to flex their muscles and lecture them on their responsibilities, instructing him to only focus on his primary roles. So, he maliciously complied, and the next time there was a bug in the payroll system, the Redditor refused to help unless he was given a proper raise. This resulted in a literal walkout of 50 employees the following day when they were not paid on time. Eventually, the VP of the company had no choice but to give the employee what he wanted in order to get their workers back.
