Unpaid internships should not be a thing. No matter how small the job that they are doing, if it is a job, they should be getting paid for it. The whole concept of unpaid internships only allows employers to take advantage of young people who desperately need to gain experience in order to get a real job, and that's just wrong. Employers can afford to pay them even a minimum hourly rate, instead of bossing them around for nothing whatsoever.
This is why I was extremely proud of the intern in this Reddit story who stood their ground and didn't let their so-called boss bully them any longer. After spending almost two months doing unpaid work for this startup, the boss kept complaining about even the smallest things. Eventually, OP (original poster) had enough of not being enough, and since they were not actually employees and didn't have an actual contract, OP decided to quit the internship on the spot. When doing so, OP made sure they told the boss exactly what they thought of her, and even blocked her immediately after quitting.
