"You can't just abandon your cat and expect me to pay for his vet visits!"
  • 02
I knew this was probably going to happen, but still.

I let a "friend" stay with me because he was homeless. When he moved out, he asked me if I'd watch his cat for a while until he got back on his feet. Now he's ghosting me and has apparently dumped and abandoned his cat with me.

Sunday 1:36 PM Your cat is sick. He has either a cold or respiratory infection. If he isn't better by Thursday, you need to take him to a vet.

7:46 AM Please don't ghost me. This is really messed up of you. I helped you out so much. I gave you a free room for months, I bought you groceries, I've taken

complete care of your cat since January- it's not okay for you to continue to take advantage of me like this. Even if you don't care about Chance (which, it seems like you don't, since you haven't seen him, bought him cat food or asked about him

since January) you know that he's your responsibility and you just asked me to watch him until you got on your feet. Chance doesn't deserve to be dumped and abandoned. I don't deserve to be taken

advantage of. I don't deserve to be put in the position of either being taken advantage of by paying YOUR cat's vet bill or watching poor Chance suffer. 7:58 AM ⚫ SMS

ariesgal11⚫ 20 hr. ago · edited 18 hr. ago make sure you save these screen shots in the event that he ever comes back and tries to take the cat away from you/take legal action. I've seen this happen before. My friend was taking care of a cat for another friend while they were on vacation. She then didn't hear anything back from them after they were supposed to return and reached out multiples times but never got a reply so the cat became hers. The original owner tried to come back 3 months later

Dragonscatsandbooks OP 20 hr. ago · edited 16 hr. ago I just googled the law where I am- he has 18 days to respond to a order to pick it up or it's abandonment. I'll think long and hard about how to send a message that conveys that, but that I know he won't respond to. Thanks for the info. Edit because this comment is at the top: Jio isn't in pron or missing missing. We have mutual acquaintances who've told me he's doing okay. He's still keeping up with his college classes and hobbies. TSllama 20 hr. ago It's less mildly infuriating, and more heartbreaking and tragic but also good news for kitty that he or she gets to have a person who cares about him or her. <3 4.1k Reply Share MsEmptiness 16 hr. ago Yeah I thought this was pretty heartbreaking too, and with the description of the "homeless friend" who is now ghosting... my first thought was that I would be pretty worried this friend has d d/( )'d, or is in jail/hospital Really cute kitty too I'd be adopting that little furba

Last Baron 18 hr. ago Please OP take care of that cat, he did nothing wrong. Frankly it disgusts me that someone would abandon a domesticated animal. My cats are affectionate, outgoing, and will follow along to wherever the people are, even just to sleep in the same room we are in. They love the adults, the kids, the dog. I'm imagining just leaving my cats alone permanently and them not understanding why I was gone, and it makes me viscerally upset. Your “friend” is a real piece of s' ` and I ho

BWebCat 20 hr. ago At risk of offending by giving advice where none was asked... You may want to create a cover your t papertrail by texting your friend. Something like: "Is you telling me I should take responsibility for him also telling me I should take ownership of him? Because his owner needs to take him to the vet immediately. Which I will do unless you tell me when you'll be picking him up to do that." It may not be necessary but it never hurts to get such things in writing. Good luck. 1.3

Dragonscatsandbooks OP 19 hr. ago That's a good way to phrase it. I'll keep that in mind and maybe tweak it a little. 745 Reply Share howdidienduphere34 · 18 hr. ago I would add that giving a deadline is important. Something along the lines of: "if I don't hear from you by end of day on April 10, 2024 I will be taking him to the vet. In doing so I will be taking responsibility for his wellbeing and ultimately ownership of this cat” 286 Reply Share

sinistar 914 19 hr. ago . OP if you get into a jam with vet bills let me know I would like to help and make a financial contribution. I am sure other people on here would as well. Chance looks like a beautiful cat and deserves a good home. 564 Reply Share Dragonscatsandbooks OP 16 hr. ago Thank ‹ you, but I'm good. It's mildly infuriating to have to pull from the savings I've worked hard to build for a bill that Jio should be paying, but situations like vet bills are why that savings exists. 345

DropdLasagna · 21 hr. ago That's your cat now. Do what you need to but please try and be kind. 815 Reply Share Dragonscatsandbooks OP 20 hr. ago In theory, it would be fair to dump the cat in his mother's porch and return his problem to him- but I would NEVER be so cruel to an innocent cat like that. He's neglectful and uncaring, so my pre-existing kitties will just have to accept Chance is now part of our family. 1.3k Reply Share ...
