There has been a lot of drama in the Disney community this week. The fan casting of Indian actress Avantika in the unannounced and, as far as we know, unplanned live-action version of Tangled gained a lot of positive and negative attention. Blonde women took to TikTok to bemoan the idea of someone who doesn't look like them playing the iconic princess. I feel conflicted about Disney's color-blind casting of their princesses in the future. On the one hand, I think that Halle Bailey's casting as Ariel in The Little Mermaid live-action version was one of the best choices they made: they chose talent over cartoon accuracy, and her talent shone through. On the other hand, I see how much harassment Bailey and Rachel Zegler have received over the past couple of years, and I wouldn't wish that on any young actress. But that begs the question, should trolls and Disney adults be the ones making decisions for the Disney corporation? I don't know; I'm just a meme person! If you don't care about this discourse and want Disney memes, you can take your pick.
