'There is no way': Pokemon inspired baby-names start dispute between friend and expectant mother

A little bit of fandom-inspired baby naming has caused a rift in this friend group.

In the past, some parents would test out potential baby names by yelling them out the front door a few times. (Parents used to call their kids home for dinner while the kids were out in the neighborhood playing with friends). If you felt weird shouting the name out the door, you'd know that wasn't the right moniker for your baby.

The modern-day equivalent might include a few more stop-gaps. You should absolutely Google your baby's new name, just in case that name has already been taken by someone unsavory. And you could also consider what happens when you type your kiddo's name. As this person shared, their friend wants to name their kid after a Pokemon… and the name autocorrects to "respiratory." Whoops!

Some commenters noted that even if you're a diehard Pokemon fan, there are humans in the show that you could name your kid after! Ash, Jesse, Brock, or May are all pretty normal names for kids. Even though your kids Pokemon name might sound cute while they're a little baby, by the time they're old enough to explain their name to other kids, they'll be known as the "Pokemon kid" everywhere they go. Then, they'll grow up and start dating, going to job interviews, and just living life as a 30-year-old named after a Pokemon. Well-meaning as it might be, you just know these two kiddos are going to change their names to something inconspicuous, like Zach and Rita, after a lifetime of Pokemon jokes.
