In retail, the number of customers who are convinced they know better than you is endless… Better than you when it comes to the products, better than you in terms of your store's policies, and better than you when it comes to the legalities under which you're trading. Having access to all the information with little understanding has emboldened people into thinking that they're experts after a few Google searches, even on impressively technical subjects. Of course, the rehearsed script often runs short after even the most minimal challenging, leaving these know-it-alls with a shaky leg to stand on—and leaving you with some interesting interactions that you won't soon forget.
This customer was looking for the best price possible, angrily insisting that they received a price match on what they were trying to buy before applying other discounts that they qualified for. Now, if you're not a stranger to retail and have ever purchased something, you'll know that usually, stores have policies about discounts not stacking—or price matches not being applicable to products that are already being discounted. But the customer continued to insist, demanding that the retail associate "look it up." When the associate "looked it up" and realized that they were breaking policy, it led to them paying more overall than they were already going to be paying.
