Uh-oh. I've only been here 2 weeks. I have two birds, a green cheek conure and a parakeet. They are approved and on my lease. I work from home and they are quiet 90% of the day. They sleep from 9pm to 9am. Sometimes, something will scare them and they will start yelling. I will calm them down, but it can take a minute or two.

I got this note at 2 p.m. today (I heard them put it on my door). I'm pretty sure it is from the old lady across the hall. My conure can be loud, but it's only ever during the day and there's really nothing I can do about their noises. I've lived in an apartment before and the neighbors never complained about anything; in fact, I was friendly with them and they loved getting to meet my birds. What should I do, if anything?

Desperate_Cucumber_9 I'm guessing they're doing. when you leave your apartment. Maybe try putting a mic or camera in when you leave just to see how they act. Either way, just do whatever you can to keep the noise from bleeding.

I mean there's really nothing you can do, but I feel for your neighbor. If my neighbor had birds I'd go nuts Imao

be1izabeth0908 Sure, conures aren't the loudest birds out there. However, they are loud as Your neighbor writing "chirping" was gracious, because conures screech and squawk.

I'd get some sound blocking panels or something. Just because the birds were initially approved doesn't mean they'll stay that way. Other animals like dogs that are "approved" can display bad behavior that ends up getting their owners evicted. I highly doubt management will side with you on this. Sorry.

killjoy_d Noisy birds into an apartment 24/7 seems like a recipe for When you leave the apartment, are they quiet? It's just like hearing a dog bark all day, horrible.

whati mean It to get a note like this, but I feel much worse for your neighbor. If you want to be a conscientious person and a good neighbor, you need to make some efforts to contain the sound. If there is a different area you can keep the bird where less noise would leave your apartment, you should. Even if it's less

convenient. I wouldn't get a bird if I was going to be living in an apartment. It does make you automatically a bad neighbor. You can add more soft furniture, hang up wall tapestries with acoustic panels underneath... Also, I don't know a lot about all kinds of birds, but if yours can be trained better, then you really ought to.

Birds are not an apartment friendly pet for this reason. It's one thing if a bird hangs outside your window being noisy from time to time. Even that can be extremely annoying. But a pet bird that is always a couple walls away from me sounds like an absolute nightmare. If I were your neighbor I would be begging management to force you to get the noise under control.

I know you love your pets, and can't just go buy a house now, so that's why you need to be as respectful as possible. Some people do rehome their birds for this reason :/ It's really a shame that your poor neighbor has lost her right to just live and exist inside her home without hearing your bird. It appears it's often enough and

loud enough that it's very annoying. I hate it when my neighbors make so much noise it affects my comfort in my own home.

cherry_oh More often than not I side with the OP in this sub but you literally have a post about your bird's multiple 'scream time' sessions per day, and you write about it like it's cute and quirky. The accompanying video you posted was definitely an annoying noise to say the least. I wouldn't want to hear that... and I wouldn't want to live near you.

Do_Not_Read_Comments I mean, there is nothing you can do besides trying to professionally sound proof your apartment. Whether you want to hear this or not, you are an inconsiderate person for having birds in an apartment.

You're allowed to have birds, but you KNOW they are noisy. Your neighbor is allowed to be No really good answer here, but knowing that you think its okay to have birds while living in an apartment definitely says something about you as a person.
