On paper, working a couple of 12-hour shifts in a row sounds doable. After 5 minutes in the ICU debating pain levels with a sassy patient who claims they're allergic to cold air, those shifts start to feel more like a prison sentence. That's why nurses are an entirely different breed in the workforce.
