Memers Come Together In Support Of Cancer-Stricken Actor Stefan Karl Stefansson
According to a tearful Facebook update from his wife, Lazytown actor and meme icon Stefán Karl Stefánsson is battling the final stages of Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. The aggressive illness is not responding to treatments, and has spread to his liver, gallbladder and bile duct. Upon hearing the news that the star's "candle burns quickly," the r/dankmemes community has responded with an outpouring of positive messages and memes in support of the Icelandic actor.
This isn't the first time the internet has shown up for Stefánsson. His illness was first announced in October 2016 - and his GoFundMe reached over $75,000 of its $80,000 goal in just one month. The response from the internet, especially the meme community, was enormous - and the campaign resulted in Robbie Rotten's title of 2016's meme of the year.
