People will really shock you with their lack of respect or human decency. What does someone expect when they lie about a critical aspect of their life for the entire relationship? The fundamentals of an intimate relationship rely on trusting your partner, trusting them that they're who they say they are, that their words are true, and that they're not deceiving you. Deceiving someone is the most disrespectful and hurtful thing to do to them. It's building a relationship on lies, rather than on loyalty. It also says something about the person's character. It's someone with a dark and distorted character to lie to their most intimate ally for the relationship.
