Couples have many ways of expressing their love. There are always ups and downs in relationships, and the longer you date someone the more dynamic your relationship becomes, and the more you see their inner world. This is true for any couple. The honeymoon phase is great – always being with each other, being co-dependent, but when you date for years you may not always feel that overtly connected. It doesn't mean you don't love your partner, but love is an ever evolving feeling. It's sort of the difference between loving your partner and being in love with them.
When you're together long enough, you can start fighting. A little bit of banter is healthy and normal in a relationship. If you're more confrontational as a person this may be brought out in your relationship. As long as the words aren't too hurtful and it's all in good fun, then there's no reason why it shouldn't be okay. A little bit of endearing bickering and joking around never hurt anyone. Healthy fighting is a love language, too.
