'I never wanted a dog before': Man Goes From Doggo Dodger to Dog Dad After Adopting An Adorable Puppy, Tells Wholesome Tail of Unintentional Love

Good morning, animal lovers. Or good evening, whenever you are reading this. We've all heard of those people who don't like pets, who don't get the appeal of having a fuzzy little creature roaming around your house that is full of love (and shedding hair, probably). These people are hard to convince when they've never experienced it, but once you get them with a puppy in their arms, their steel walls melt faster than ice on a hot day! We have one such wholesome doggo story for you below, it's a tale as old as time about unintentional love and puppy dog eyes.

The 38-year-old man in this post was an avid animal nay-sayer, until he caved and got a Dachshund puppy from his wife's friend.     I'm 38 years old, and until recently never really understood the draw of dogs. I had a scary encounter as a kid, and had been wary ever since. A few months ago, my wife told me she wanted a daschund puppy her friend had bred. It was a flat no from me; I didn't like dogs, didn't want one, and didn't want to pay what seemed an exorbitant price for him.

    True story: our partner never had pets before they met us. They didn't understand the appeal. And now, we have two dogs and a cat, and they sing little songs for each one of them. They always cave in the end!

    Alas, I relented and wow, it was the single best decision I ever made. Never in my life have I felt such love, or gotten such joy, from anything or anyone. I get it now. I totally get it. He gives me no trouble, there's no fallings out, it's just constant, unconditional love. As the title infers, he's just the most beautiful soul I've ever encountered, and I feel blessed to have him in my life. No one in my life has ever shown me such love.     Dogs are the best, aren't they? They're just little fuzzy guys who want to follow you everywhere and be by your side. Some people get tired of petting them, but not us! We would do it professionally if we could.

    Past_Cauliflower_440 1 mo. ago Same same. I have ocd and god forbid the disorder a dog would have brought. It was a hard no for my family. Then we went to Kauai, took a humane society dog out on a field trip for a day, husband returned him teary eyed, and what do you know? He flew out to us a few weeks later. That hard no is now my soulmate. We adopted him at the prefect time, as my daughters turn into cranky, hormonal tweens. I mean, the dog loves me unconditionally even if they don't.

I'm convinced most people who don't "get" the appeal of dogs, haven't owned one yet, and just go based on a bad experience with someone else's dog. My dogs make my life so much brighter. They are silly, cute, and give unconditional love.

    radradroit 1 mo. ago • Aw this is so sweet. Gave me tears. They are so wonderful. I lost my boy, Bear, in December and he was truly the purest, kindest, most beautiful soul I have ever known. I often think I will never know anyone else so perfectly wonderful to the degree that he was. So far no one before, during, or after him has come close. Dogs are the epitome of love. Enjoy

Their poor skeletal frames are genetic nightmares. Make it easier on you to care for them over the next dozen years

I too was late to dog love, didn't get mine until 2020 when I was 43! My whole life has changed for the better because of him. He is my best friend and companion. I'm a better person because of my dog.

They have such special, loving souls and their quirks are incredibly entertaining. I'm looking to foster for a rescue in the next year or so too, and would like two or three of my own once my kids are older and don't need me as much.
