The next generation of workers are already proving to be a problem for their employers and I love it.

My niece (19f) is a trainee on minimum wage ($12.50 a hour) works in childcare (Australia). Yesterday I asked her how work is going, and told she me her boss doesn't like her.

When I asked why, she explained that she was asked to attend a 3 hour after hours meeting. When asked if she would be paid to be there, she was told no - but it is mandatory. She politely advised her manager that she wouldn't be attending and they can send her the minutes to read through after the meeting.

I would not have had the do this as a trainee! and I am actually proud of her for just having clear boundaries. to

brsox2445 .2d ago Good on her! If management wants you after hours, they have to pay you. In the US, I would advise to Sue over the 13th Amendment if they retaliate. But if they do to her then sue over your equivalent.

    • Little_BallOfAnxiety 1d ago I think that's a great little story but disagree with the title. I think the idea that people are entitled has been fabricated by big businesses. I hear stories now how jobs are requiring unpaid work trials or having their 2 week notices rejected, and people

are expected to just go along with it, which is probably because most people do. Think this would have happened in the 80s? Never, the 60s? no, the 40s? Definitely not the 20s? The owner might have been killed.

Millennials and Gen z aren't entitled and never have been. The only people who think we are, are people who have been tricked into believing so
