Ask many people who first taught them the basics of cooking, and they'll probably say something about learning from a family member. However, not everybody is blessed with a kindly close relative to show them the ropes. Growing up with parents who are seemingly unable to follow a tasty recipe is a very unfortunate predicament.

Also, those who manage to learn regardless will not necessarily receive a thank you when they share their skills with their family. This is the basis of a situation that has recently gone viral, where a daughter faced the criticism of her mom after cooking her parents a flavorful meal. While her dad seemed to enjoy his plate, her mom insisted on competing with her child and serving a meal that looked less than palatable. It's fair to say that most of the internet agreed that mayonnaise and chicken were two ingredients that shouldn't be put together in the oven.
