Lu-Seal is an adorable chihuahua that shockingly weighed 16 pounds! And that is a lot for such a small dog.

It was understood that the owners sadly abandoned her because of her weight. Something the owners could have monitored and prevented.

Luckily for this chubby pup, she was quickly adopted her new mother, Julia Morely. When Julia first got Lu-Seal (naming her that because she resembled a seal at her heaviest) she was barely able to walk. The dog also suffered from arthritis, and torn CCL ligaments in both her knees. Making her back legs very painful and her feet being unstable.

Julia's first task was to get little Lu-Seal on a healthier track. She first put her on a super strict diet. Her Vet said that Lu-Seal should be consuming 250 calories a day...meaning Julia can spend 200 calories on normal food and 50 on treats.

She also used a fitness tracker, making Julia very aware of her progress. Julia says that because of Lu-Seal's arthritis it prevented her from doing exercise, let alone walk. Now she gives her medication to ease the pain and to help with the inflammation, and Lu-Seal can walk a mile without stops!

Julia also started an Instagram page for Lu-Seal and documents her progress, updating their already 800 followers! Julia also suggests for her followers and others who are trying maintain the weight of their pets that " Weight loss in dogs, just like humans, takes time. Your dog should only lose 1-2 percent of his or her body weight each week."

We are so proud of all the progress Lu-Seal has done and just know she will get to her goal weight!
