Good childcare is hard to find… and it doesn't come cheap. It's reached the point where many families are now weighing up the costs of childcare and finding that it actually doesn't make sense for one spouse to work when their entire salary is going to the childcare costs incurred by their absence.

Even for families that can afford it, filling the gaps between childcare providers is particularly challenging, creating a mess of busy schedules and further complicating workplace obligations. For those who can afford full-time child care, $12.50 is probably pocket change… You'd have to be crazy to upend your child-caring arrangements over such a petty figure. But where money is involved, there is always someone who is going to cling to it with as tight of a fist as they can manage.

These Karen parents (Ken and Karen) tried to make a stink with their nanny over a measly $12.50 that they felt their "babysitter" had inappropriately charged. Their attempts to strictly interpret the contract that they had jointly signed opened the door for them to seek backpay for hundreds of dollars in hours that they hadn't charged.
