So, for many years cat ladies have been dubbed... well crazy. But, that's all about to change. You see these crazy cat ladies aren't crazy at all but in fact just normal, healthy, and now thanks to celebs like Taylor Swift and Katy Perry, pretty cool and trendy.
A recent study published in the journal Psychological Medicine found no links between cat ownership and any sort of psychosis later in life.... so not crazy but just cat ladies.
But why were they even considered to be crazy in the first place? Well, fear about becoming crazy was because of the notion that Toxoplasmosis (an infection caused by a parasite found in cat feces) could in fact cause people to lose their minds.
David Haworth, doctor of veterinary medicine, Ph.D., and chair of the Research Working Group at the Human Animal Bond Research Institute stated that, "The Centers for Disease Control estimates that more than 60 million people in the United States may be infected with the Toxoplasma parasite through all means, including cats[...]but very few people show symptoms because a healthy person's immune system usually keeps the parasite from causing illness."
So all in all, cats are doing the opposite of what many believed for so long. They aren't making us crazy, but keeping us healthy ;)
