The Witcher IV Just Dropped a Demo Running on a PS5 and My Brain Can’t Handle It

This looks insane!

All of this is running on a base PlayStation 5 at 60 frames per second with ray tracing, because apparently we’re living in a sci-fi future. But here’s the catch: this isn’t actual gameplay from The Witcher IV. It’s “A demonstration of the technology powering the game” - essentially a tech flex for Unreal Engine 5.6, not a preview of the final product. And let’s just say, they’re flexing hard. Dense forests thanks to Nanite Foliage, faster loading promises from the new Fast Geometry Streaming Plugin, and bustling ports that feel like they could eat my graphics card alive.

But let’s not get carried away. Remember when Cyberpunk 2077 looked like the future of gaming? Yeah. I’m very cautiously optimistic here. It’s stunning, no doubt - but I’m not ready to hand over my heart (or my coin) just yet. CD Projekt Red says The Witcher IV is still years away - 2027 at the earliest - so there’s time for them to tweak, polish, and hopefully avoid the kind of launch meltdown that could make Roach himself start glitching out.

For now? I’ll watch this demo on repeat, dream about medieval forest real estate, and remember to keep my hype in check - at least until CDPR shows us the real thing.
