K-Pop Demon Hunters Deserved Better - It Should Have Had a Theatrical Release, Not a Netflix Drop

Here’s the part that’s driving me up the wall: people LOVE this movie. It’s currently sitting as the #2 film on Netflix globally. It has one of the highest average review scores on Rotten Tomatoes right now. Audiences are vibing with it. Critics are praising it. And yet... the theatrical run? Nonexistent.

What part of K-pop idols who moonlight as demon hunters didn’t sound cinematic enough for you, Sony? We’re living in a world where Madam Web and friggin' Morbius got released in cinemas but this - this pop-art masterpiece - gets quietly dropped onto streaming like it’s a new episode of The Amazing Digital Circus? (No shade, I love that show).

I’ve already gushed about how much I loved this movie in my review, but let me just reiterate: it’s original, it’s joyful, it has style for DAYS, and it was made to be experienced in a room full of strangers with a subwoofer rattling your chest. It deserves to be projected on a screen taller than your house. It deserves audience cheers, audible gasps, mid-film applause. It deserves its moment.

The worst part? This decision reinforces the idea that visually inventive, genre-blending, female-led action-comedy-musical-whatever films are a “risk” unless they’re attached to some IP. But K-Pop Demon Hunters proves the opposite. You give people something fun, stylish, and totally unique - and they show up! This could’ve had legs in theaters. At the very least, it deserved the chance.

So here’s what I’m asking: do the right thing, Sony. Give it a limited theatrical release. Heck, do a roadshow. Throw it in IMAX for a week. Let people who missed out on the big experience get a taste. I’ll be there opening night. I’ll bring friends. I’ll wear a “Saja Boys” T-Shirt. Don’t let this one be remembered as “just a streaming gem.” Let it shine. Let it be Golden! It will make the Honmoon stronger!

Because this wasn’t a throwaway. This wasn’t filler. This was something special.
And it deserved to be louder.
