Mega Evolutions Are Back in Pokémon Legends Z-A. And Yes, Mega Dragonite Looks Absolutely Unhinged

While Legends ZA is technically a spin-off, it’s continuing the Legends: Arceus vibe of mixing classic lore with fresh gameplay. But this time, instead of ancient times, we’re in the present day - which means less room for new species and more room for glow-ups. Mega Evolutions are a smart move: no new Pokédex entry needed, but all the dramatic flair of a transformation sequence.

Also new? Rogue Mega Evolutions, where Pokémon basically Hulk out mid-battle, and a new enemy team called the Rust Syndicate who sound very into Steelix and industrial vibes. You’ll be joining Team MZ, led by a wannabe dancer with main-character energy, and working alongside familiar faces like Emma (now a detective?) and some mysterious scientist person doing side quests and research-y things.

Pokémon Legends ZA drops October 16, 2025, for both the Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2. Let the hype begin.
