When one starts looking for a job, there are numerous ways to increase the chances of finding the best job out there. One can even find actual online courses on how to job search, which include lessons like – how to write resumes, prepare for an interview, negotiate the salary, and so on.
One tip that you hear quite a lot when it comes to negotiating your salary, is to say to the hiring manager that you actually got another offer that is higher than what they offered, in hopes that the hiring manager will try to match the other offer. Usually, people who do that are the ones who have another offer lined up and are genuinely contemplating between the two, but some employees simply try this trick just to see if they can get a higher offer from the one place they are negotiating with. This is exactly what the person in this Reddit story attempted to do, but they didn't expect to be asked to provide proof.
