When you're a kid, you can swear every which way that you're going to do things differently than your folks. It's an honest gesture, and you might even accomplish it some of the way. But then one day you'll find yourself thinking "Who turned up the AC? I'm not made of money." And you'll realize that your transformation is beginning to take shape.
This doesn't have to be a bad thing. Age usually comes with wisdom, so there's no shame in coming around to the other side.
