"Why did you even hire me?"
  • 02
Got fired after 4 days because I "don't have experience"
  • 03
I 20F started a new job as a receptionist(for the summer season) for a hotel 4 days ago and got fired today.
  • 04
When THEY contacted about this offer through an announcement I made on Facebook where I specified I didn't have experience in this field they said they didn't mind
  • 05
and were preferably looking for young people to teach the job to. First 2 days I wasn't even working as a receptionist, they told me to help at the bar as a barista/waitress because it was

a busy weekend(never worked as a barista). Overall everything went OK, they taught me a few stuff and I learnt fairly quickly. Next 2 days I worked as a receptionist, my colleague
  • 07
taught me how to do registrations, check-ins, ect... I was doing the 4pm - 12am shift so the place was pretty quiet, I just had to give infos if client asked and greet them basically.
  • 08
My colleague was teaching me different things day by day so I didn't even get to actually work as a receptionist. I'm proficient with PC's, I took notes of everything, I asked questions, they never told me I did
  • 09
something wrong or to not do something. Even the husband of the owner complimented me because I was able to modify a document he couldn't, they even called me to the other

hotel(they own multiple hotels close to each other) because the receptionist and intern there couldn't figure out how to modify a menu.
  • 11
And today before work started I get a message saying that my trial didn't go well, to not come in today and that they will terminate my contract. When I asked why they said they needed someone with
  • 12
experience because they can't have someone by my side to teach me. The colleague teaching me was doing the shift before me and we had 1 hour where we were both scheduled
  • 13
at the same time too. They also have hired multiple interns so pretty sure it's just an excuse. I did everything they asked me to, was always polite and took notes so I don't understand why
  • 14
this happend. I'm new to the work field so maybe I'm missing something, and if I did something wrong I would like to understand what.
  • 15
TLDR; got fired because I don't have experience even tho they knew i didn't and said they were looking for people to teach the job to. (Sorry for my english)

PuzzleheadedTime3567 · 14 hr. ago You got used. Someone was scouting for short-term workers and saw your post. You showing people how to adjust the menu could have threatened a coworker who claimed it was impossible or something.
  • 17
Work is also about who you know, not always just what you know. Don't waste time trying to figure out what happened. Just know that places who are hiring that claim to train on the job will treat you disposably.

espertemaa OP. 14 hr. ago Thank you for leaving this comment, I understand a little bit better what happened now. It's not the first time this has happened to me. Just before this I had found a job as a waitress, after 2 weeks of them telling me "we'll call you at the beginning of

the week to confirm the date to start the trial", doing 3 days of trial I get told "the barista of last year said he wants to come back". On my last day there I accidentally overheard a conversation between the owner and the girlfriend of the souschef( brother's owner) talking about "so are you ready

to start next week... ect..." So I was beginning to feel like maybe I'm unemployable or something even tho people around me don't feel the that way Imao

. delegatepattern · 14 hr. ago They used you and had a plan to end your contract after a few days in advance. up reality where employers are allowed to do virtually anything to their employees.

espertemaa OP · 14 hr. ago I just dont understand why they would hire me for just a few days. The person who contacted me even said they had multiple people with experience apply. If this was a lie, why even tell me... to make it seem like sooo many people want this fantastic job with 0 days off? lol
  • 23
FreakCell 12 hr. ago Maybe they just needed someone to show them how to change the menu.

sasslibrary 11 hr. ago It's also possible they finally hired someone with receptionist exp or a past employee came back. I wouldn't feel bad about this.

BruinBound22 - 6 hr. ago Id ask again what exactly went wrong, if they don't tell you more then you'll never know and just gonna have to accept it. Time to move on, best of luck
