‘How could I marry him?’: Man Proposes to Girlfriend Using the Ring From Her Ex-husband, She Questions Her Response to the Proposal as a Result
It can be quite a dramatic statement to claim that a proposal can be the downfall of a relationship, but I can think of quite a few examples to shed some light on a statement like this. One example is if the couple never discussed marriage before, and then one of them decides to propose as a surprise, then no, they should not be surprised if they are being told 'no'.
Another example, coincidently the topic of this Reddit story, is when the boyfriend proposes to his girlfriend using the ring she got from her ex-husband. After OP (original poster) gave the ring she got from her ex-husband to her current boyfriend, expecting him to sell it, she was shocked to see the same ring in his hand when he proposed to her years later. Feeling betrayed, OP now doesn't know if she should continue with the relationship, and she turns to Reddit for advice.
