I got a job right before I graduated College. In the interview process the person who would be my boss stated that they wanted to make sure I was planning on staying for a long time as they did not want to hire someone who was planning on leaving. At the time I thought nothing of it and of course told them I would stay, I needed the job. My Husband was constantly telling me that I could do better but I came in at what I thought was a high ask of $15/hr I was used to minimum wage which was around

know the job and company VERY well and LOVED my job and coworkers (well most of them anyway). I even met my now best friend through this job. Fast forward 7 1/2 years and two kids later my husband looses his job. We have a mortgage, car payments and school required expenses and need more money. This is post pandemic so it is increasingly difficult to find a new job even though everyone says, "but everyone is hiring!" They were not. We

need more money coming in and my husband suggests I look for a new job as he is finding a TON of jobs I would qualify for during his search that pay a ton more money. FYI he was not being lazy and had been mentioning this to me over the years but I would always. respond with I don't know. I love my job and I love my coworkers. I can't see myself working anywhere else. Prior to this development in our personal life I agreed to take on some extra duties; did I mention I love working here?

Anyway the duties were for a position that was recently vacated and they were in the process of hiring someone new. After about 2 months of me doing these new duties they announced that they would in fact NOT be hiring someone to fill the position. In short I was stuck with the new duties. It didn't bother me though because; you guessed it, I love my job. A few more months pass by and my husband looses his job. I finally get up the courage to go into my bosses office and ask for a raise. I didn'

to be greedy so I low balled. I asked for a $2.50 cent raise, over the course of my almost 8 years working here I had only received a grand total of $4.50 worth of raises. I am loyal, hard working, and ALWAYS willing to do extra or help others and recently found out the temporary job duties I took on are now mine permanently, so I figured it was a no brainer. Boy was I WRONG! Not only was my request denied but I was told that they did research on my position title and was getting paid what I was

They also asked if my recent inquiry had anything to do with my husband having lost his job. I was flabbergasted to say the least. Did I ask for more money because my family needed it and not because I was greedy yes. Yes I did, however, my husband having lost his job had no way impacted the fact that I was now doing twice the work for the same pay as before. That night I went home and started applying for new jobs and asked friends and former coworkers of mine if I could use them as references,

After about 3 months they started to message me and ask what job I got and congratulating me. I was confused and said I hadn't found a new job or quit yet. They then told me that the company had posted an indeed job positing for my position so they assumed I had quit. I looked it up and sure enough it read JUST. LIKE. MY. JOB. So the next day I marched into my bosses office and asked what it was all about and she of course denied it and her and I had been friends for years so I took what she sai

It took about 6 months but I finally received an offer. However, before I could get the official offer with pay and everything my boss called me in to discuss a letter she received. It was from my soon to be new employer and was essentially a survey of how good of an employee I was. She was told her I was looking for a new job and the next thing I know I am being told to turn in a letter of resignation. I go home type one up that basically said thanks for showing me how not to be treated and sor

emailed it to myself because you know I was NOT about to print that out at home. I called my new employer while I was on lunch explained the whole situation to which they apologized and offered me the job which I graciously accepted. I then printed off my letter signed it and turned it in. Remember that job that wasn't MY job. She was hired a week later and I was told to train her as she was going to be taking over my duties. The big boss wanted to know how much they were offering me and I didn'

told her $10,000 more per year than what you are paying me. The week before I left they made a big announcement that they realized that they needed to be more competitive with pay and that EVERYONE would be receiving a $1.25/hour raise. I worked at that new job for 9 months and was offered another job within the same company for another raise of an extra $10,000/year. I am now loving my job again and just got another raise of $5/hour which puts me making over $30,000/year more than I was making
