They denied the days off for my wedding. My job denied me the days off that I need for my wedding. It seems like they are doing everything in their power to prevent me from getting married.

elegant-situation. 21 hr. ago What a crazy coincidence that you're gonna end up having to call in sick for those days now
  • 04
Charleston2Seattle. 20 hr. ago Even better if you find a sympathetic doctor who will write you a sick note.

20 hr. ago Trollsama edited 16 hr. ago 1 Due to the nature of the time off, I felt I should clarify that while the required paperwork calls this a request, it is not actually that. This is

advance notice of my absence. I will not be here. Do with that as you will. I hope that this clarification comes with understanding, but if it

does not, understand that a job can be replaced, my wife can not. So this is not the hill to die on if you value me as an employee.
  • 08
ArsenicSulphide 18 hr. ago Even simpler: I am not asking you; I am telling you.
  • 09
Greenpaw9 15 hr. ago Their response: and you can be replaced. Even if they struggle with replacing you, they will do it to teach other employees a lesson.
  • 10
Also you are so important that you can't have days off, but not important enough to not be immediately fired
  • 11
Asherdan 20 hr. ago Listen, OP, all I got to say is this: When I got married my company tried to with the time off. I took off and got married anyways.
  • 12
Today, I have a happy 26 year old marriage. That company and everyone in it is long long gone. Choose in your best interests, not some j business'.
  • 13
kramerica21 22 hr. ago You gave them notice you will not be there. Too bad for them. Go get your life on, you don't need that!
  • 14
LordQuest1809 - 20 hr. ago Yeah this is it all day. Undoubtably you had months ahead of the wedding, no reason they can't accommodate. You let them know what days you won't be there.
  • 15
Chief_Mischief 19 hr. ago The only thing left to do is start applying for jobs. This one clearly doesn't respect you enough to even take time off for a momentous event like your own wedding.
  • 16
Useful-Commission-76 21 hr. ago The job can't prevent you from getting married. Just tell them you won't be at work on those days. If they fire you, they fire you, the marriage is more important than the job.
  • 17
AnamCeili 21 hr. ago Absolutely. Plus, then you can collect unemployment, OP. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

One_Impression_5649 20 hr. ago Also important, give them written notice you're unavailable those days. Email whom ever you need to. Keep a copy for your records
  • 19
ijustcant555 19 hr. ago If they need you that bad, they can't fire you. If they fire you, they didn't really need you, plus you didn't want to work for them anyway.
  • 20
OffBrandToby 21 hr. ago No job will ever care if you prioritize them over being a human being. Funerals, weddings, birthdays... in your employer's eyes they only exist to prove how much of a boot licker you are.
  • 21
Lo-Fi Pioneer - 20 hr. ago Your employer will not remember that you sacrificed your wedding day to work for them. Your partner, however, will not forget.
  • 22
poopy_toaster · 5 hr. ago This right here. And in most states, it's right to work. Even if you chose work over wedding, nothing prevents them from just firing you next day anyways.
  • 23
MysteriousMrX - 21 hr. ago Don't ask. Just tell them "I'm not going to be here for these days". That's it. You don't have to "find cover" or whatever your job may ask of you. That's your bosses job.
  • 24
Also, they don't get to retaliate. The consequence to you not working those days is that you don't get paid for working those days. If they can't figure this out, then that's your bosses problem, and they should probably get to work on that.
  • 25
alanwbrown 21 hr. ago The problem is that you are requesting time off. The correct view is that you are informing them in advance that you will not be available for work on these dates. Get married, what are they going to do? Fire you? Might do. In 20 years which will be more important to you?

darling_lycosidae. 19 hr. ago Absolutely this. Don't let dumb stop you from life events. Go to weddings, funerals, graduation parties, birthdays, dance recitals, etc. You'll never regret missing that day of work.
