My boss threatened to write me up for having DND on outside of work hours. Edit: for clarity DND - Do Not Disturb NOT dungeons and dragons I am in a managing position at a very small gym, on one of my days off I was taking a nap so I put on DND. The following day at work my boss pulls me into her office and tells me that I am not allowed to have do not disturb on outside of work in case she needed to contact me. I am paid hourly and I have no idea why she would expect me to be on call 24/7,

especially when there is no emergency at a gym that would even require me to need to answer. She also stalks me and my employees on the cameras at work for "productivity reasons" and will send texts telling us to do more and will watch the cameras for hours. She told me a story once that she was watching the cameras at another gyms location and watched one of the employees sit down for hours and "scratch his every 10 minutes" she acted like this was funny and told me she texted the gyms manager

This is weird but I feel like thats also illegal and its giving stalker vibes to me. I live in GA usa, after these events I'm quitting. This job UPDATE: Thank you to everyone that has offered advice on this situation! I have reached out to my boss to confirm in email that I am expected to be available on call 24/7. If she responds confirming this in writing I plan on taking this to the department of labor. I will update further as this progresses.

PNW100 This. Get it in writing. Log your hours. Don't say until you leave. Then file a wage complaint with your state labor board. Should work out to a nice exit bonus!!

Lucky-Surround-1756 Ask her very clearly "Are you asking me to be on-standby and ready to handle work responsibilities during these. hours?" in one email and get it in writing. In a separate email ask "I'm only getting paid for hours where I am handling work responsibilities, right?" Get that answer in writing as well.

Now finally ask her during which hours she wants you to keep your phone on. When she says "24 hours", congratulations, you've now turned every single hour of the day into overtime. Log your overtime hours that she agreed to. You've just tripled your salary for the month.

KTeacherWhat I read this with such a confused look on my face... what does Dungeons and Dragons have to do with napping? Finally realized and ugh your boss is a different kind of crazy than the one I was picturing. Ripped_Ape777 OP I think I would prefer it if she was mad about that instead. AlarisMystique I'd understand if boss was upset after stepping on a forgotten D4

NWCJ I do facilities maintenance, my boss tried this with me, and would call about door codes, or to let me know about dripping faucets, etc. So at next contract negotiation, luckily just 3 months later I negotiated with his boss to have in my contract that I get paid a minimum 2 hours everytime I answer my phone outside of work hours, regardless of whether I have to come onto the job site or the phone call takes 2 minutes. If not, I'll simply turn off my work phone and they would be out of luck

It took one payperiod in which I had 74 extra hours paid to me to I shut down hard. get that Now my boss, begs other workers to submit a work order thru proper channels unless it's a going to cost the company thousands before i come back in type emergency. It's great.

Taddles2020 Having your phone on so they can reach you is considered being on-call. So you'd be on the clock, meaning you should be salaried not hourly.

Panchenima do it as soon as you leave work, leave in DND all the time until next shift, do it until you get the write up and then get that to DOL, watch the shitshow. Ripped Ape777 OP I like this idea, thats perfect.
