Greetings, Potterheads. Welcome to the sixth installment of our exploration of Harry Potter covers from around the world! I personally grew up with the original American Children's edition. Much like the American Children's cover of the fifth book, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the sixth book was monochromatic and betrayed very little about the contents of the book compared to previous books' illustrations. Mary Grandpré's green pastel drawing was incredibly mysterious; little did I know when I picked it up, that it would become my favorite of the series.
Other publishers around the world preferred to give its potential readers a few more hints about the plot by depicting specific scenes from book. Harry's final adventure with Dumbledore is a very popular choice, with most covers featuring the pair at various stages of that dreaded journey. Pensieves, cauldrons, potion books are common motifs across the globe to draw the eye and hint at what is to come. If you were illustrating Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which scenes and symbols would you choose to illustrate?
