There is no deficit of entitled Karen customers in the world. Whether that be in retail, hospitality, or food service — they are always there, waiting to pounce on the weakest link of the staff team. Maybe not even the weakest link; life sends the most entitled Karens to our strongest customer service warriors. What happens when the Karen is one of your own? The danger becomes imminent as you clock in with fear, hoping they called out sick that day.
The woman in this story works in a server role at a semi-fine dining establishment and her co-worker Karen has been there longer than she has. Karen has been away from the restaurant space for about a year. In this span of time, OP has gotten very good at her job and is a star employee — even becoming somewhat of a team lead. When Karen comes back from her restaurant hiatus, she immediately tries to start calling the shots. She is failing all of her re-training practices, and being an annoyance to everyone while doing so. When OP is called into the establishment to work a 40-person party while Karen is also on the schedule, Karen has a breakdown when she realizes she won't be getting the payout from the large table. Even better, she demands $100 of the $300 OP made because she ran a drink or two over to the customers. After realizing she won't be getting the undeserved payout, she has a fit and you guessed it — rage quits.
