My future boss rescinded my job offer because i asked ONE question about pay
  • 03
We met up for an interview and everything, it all went smoothly. He said to give him my availability in the following days so he could allocate me some
  • 04
shifts. I asked him how often does the pay get sent out, and he immediately said that "i don't think its gonna work for you” followed by a "also i don't like staff always asking about pay"
  • 05
what do i do about this?? i replied that i felt like it was a question that needed to be asked. i do really want this job but i feel like being avoidant of such a question is raising some red flags...

breadpudding3434 · 1 day ago Something similar happened to me. Obviously stocks in the moment, but you dodged a bullet. If he can't answer simple question about pay, imagine how insufferable it. would be to work for him.

jeqni OP 1 day ago im just scared. i asked him to reconsider. i really really want this job. honestly, as long as i get paid monthly and somewhat on time i genuinely don't mind.

    • breadpudding3434 1 day ago I know that feeling but being too desperate that you'll accept is really dangerous. Got me into some bad situations because I didn't trust my better judgment. If you can at all avoid it and keep looking, please do.

    • jeqni OP 1 day ago okay i'll take your advice to mind. tysm... i did tell him to reconsider and he is doing so(or at least thats what hes telling me), but if i don't get a final answer for my question

imma call it off. i have to admit im quite inexperienced in the workforce because i just freshly graduated so i may not know the proper way to handle these situations

  • 12
IF you do end up working for him, don't even stop the job search.

andy10115 1 day ago Just move on, I promise the job is absolutely not worth it if that's the boss's mentality.

I had a boss who used to flip out any time you mentioned pay to her...but your check would be 2 hours short, or you wouldn't get paid on time, or she paid you your regular rate for holiday/OT hours. If you even started with

"so my check-" she'd cut you off and start the dramatics and going, "oh my god it's always about money with you!" It was her privately owned business so any money she you for went right back to her pocket. It

was purposeful but I think that she thought by making a scene every time it was brought up that we'd decide it wasn't worth the hassle and just let it go- she thought wrong, lol. Definitely a blessing in disguise for OP that the offer was rescinded.

Burnsidhe 1 day ago That's the thing. If he won't answer a simple, fundamental question like 'what's the pay schedule?' it means it is irregular and very likely to be short on hours or have other games with your pay happening. It means the business is not run professionally.

Perfect-Map-8979 · 1 day ago That's very weird. Asking when you get paid is a perfectly reasonable question.
