When you're an itty bitty kid, all you've got to worry about is the basics. When I was in Kindergarten, I had already mastered shapes and colors, but patterns were the most important part of the curriculum. It felt like every single day I was trying to figure out whether a series of squares and rectangles in a line was a pattern or not a pattern, and it kind of drove me nuts. I found the concept pretty easy to grasp and couldn't understand why we had to spend time where we could be reading a story constantly identifying patterns. 

Now that I'm nearly 20 years out from finishing that course, I see the value in identifying patterns. You can't close-read or critically think if you don't have some level of pattern recognition. Patterns also occur in memes, which regenerate the same joke in different formats. See if you can identify any patterns in these 31 memes.
