Hello, fans and stans of the internet. I may have watched a ton of anime as a kid, but I did not grow up in Japan, do not speak Japanese, and unfortunately did not have access to their gorgeous pixelated games in the 90s. I did play my fair share of SNES and PC adventure games that featured gorgeous pixelated artwork and clunky 16-bit sprites, such as Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, The Secret of Monkey Island, and ActRaiser, and that is why a feel some type of way every time I look at pixelated landscapes, interiors, and cities. It all feels nostalgic, cozy, and familiar. If you grew up on pixelated graphics, or if you just love beautiful and oddly satisfying artwork, check out these gorgeous stills and screen caps from retro Japanese video games that will have you wishing you lived in a lower-rez universe.
