Haala @haalasback Follow My current most boomer take is that millennials really did ruin a lot of things. The worst thing they did was validating being part of a "fandom" in your 30s and 40s as normal and not something to be ashamed of

Haala @haalasback - 3d Replying to @haalasback There's nothing wrong with being in fandoms when you're a teenager or when you're early into adulthood, but if you're 30 years old and you haven't found a community based on meaningful connections to each other outside of the kids shows you all watch, then I'm afraid you're ngmi

Haala @haalasback - 3d Replying to @haalasback To be clear I'm not saying you should grow out of liking the stuff you like. Definitely continue to enjoy it and share it with your friends and loved ones. Just please grow out of engaging in online fandoms like managing subreddits, running a stan account or being a discord admin

Sol Harris @solmaquina ⚫ 3d Replying to @haalasback . If that's the worst thing we did then we're pretty chill tbh. Q4 175 ❤2K Ilil 99.1K Haala @haalasback .3d Honestly the worst things I can accuse millennials of are being cringe and giving eminem a platform so it could be worse

emily @memilies ⚫ 3d Replying to @haalasback very much disagree with this take, but I do think having been in ofmd means you've seen some of the best examples of how modern fandom has sort of rotted from the inside. 27 ♡381 ili 82.1K Haala @haalasback 3d I read your thread in the quotes and actually got a lot of the nuance I was missing before. Thank you for that!

Sophie Asimov @AsimovSophie - 3d Replying to @haalasback The "girlboss" mindset did irreparable damage to society as a whole

Mercury @sharkwhirl. 3d Replying to @haalasback iv read that alot of fandom culture for people pushing 30's is kinda the replacement for religion and like id rather have a star wars nut job than a religious nut job i guess

Kittenlm @Kittenlm43 PhD in... Follow Replying to @haalasback But what if I have found a community based on meaningful connections right here? We celebrate successes together, we have group chats, we go to concerts...l happen to like being in my 40s and on stan Twitter. Thanks though!

hightowerbane @kalenuwu⚫ 3d this biggest thing that gen z ruined is aging. why do you think participating in something you like at 30-40 is shameful? you expect people to just magically lose interest in things as they age?

b@brittania_ · 3d • 50s housewives overly invested in star trek invented modern fandom as you know it. please have some respect for our actual Mothers my god
  • 12
emily @memilies 3d I think this take is only possible because of what "fandom" means having changed over the last decade and a half. in the early aughts (and prior to that) fandoms were far more self contained, less obsessed with creator Word Of God, and not slaves to corporate IP.

cowboy kat @gayspacecowboi .3d fandoms have always been made up of mostly adults/people aged 20+ (like who do you think was organizing PHYSICAL ZINES SENT VIA MAIL for Star Trek in the 60s??) and what has actually ruined fandom is the recent influx of children trying to police how people enjoy fan works online

Mr. Chau @Srirachachau • 3d Fans being possessive and entitled has obviously always been a thing but this absolutely escalates with George Lucas vs. the fandom, which firmly puts the blame squarely on Gen X *bangs gavel*

Dr Fat Baby Browen @KorgTheBronan Follow I do think there's a conversation that needs to be had about how the Internet has raised a generation of kids who genuinely think you wither away and die once you hit 30
  • 17
Skid @SkidSpace 3d Fandoms literally wouldn't exist to the scale they do if it weren't for 30-40 year olds with disposable income and a desire to connect with others over something that has brought them joy for decades. You only think its weird cuz you are afraid to grow up and get older
  • 18
amber@mellowslinkyb 3d my most boomer take is that gen z and gen alpha have no freaking idea how quickly their teen years and 20s are going to pass them by and then you'll just be a sad old person who doesn't deserve happiness or enjoyment and you just go to work because a kid on twitter told you to
  • 19
teen vampire, aged 40 @starswheeled Follow I think a lot of you are weird and deeply unpleasant people who care way too much about other people's hobbies so you try to micromanage what other people are into because it gives your pathetic and empty lives meaning lol
