Now, I'm not saying I condone this type of revenge… but karma has a funny way of working itself out.
When you're a prospective homeowner, you would hope you can trust your real estate agent without second-guessing their allegiance. Real estate agents are more in it for themselves than for anyone else, so all of that hopeful trust can be thrown out the window right now. That's just the truth of the homeowning market, and these agents want to make a pretty penny on commission without caring about the fallout homeowners have to navigate through after a deal closes.
The original poster (OP) of this story was once in this position, saving up all of the cash he had made for ten years in hopes of having a place to call his own. He hired a real estate agent that he considered a safe bet, who was a friend-of-a-friend. OP was handling a mortgage on his own, so he compromised and looked for homes on a shared block. He adds that these types of homes usually come with "strata" titles, which also have a number of by-laws and restrictions attached to them and he was adamant about avoiding this.
When he finally found his perfect home on a shared block with a freehold title, he obviously took the deal with the real estate agent's help. Five months after he moves in, the landlord from the property next to him comes to his doorstep to talk insurance. Upon looking at the policy, it's confirmed that it is for strata insurance, which means that he is subject to the aforementioned by-laws and restrictions he desperately wanted to avoid. The real estate agent refuses to accept any responsibility for the major mistake, only looking out for themselves and leaving OP stuck in an undesirable mortgage. Even when OP asks the agent to cover the costs when he can sell the property, the agent refuses.
OP enacts sweet revenge. For six years, he sends a fake love letter to his former agent on the anniversary of the home sale. His wife finds the letters and divorces him. The craziest part of the story is that these fake love letters expose his actual ongoing infidelity, and the fake love letter simply forces the agent to come clean.
