Orbitals’ New Trailer Nails a Nostalgic Anime Aesthetic You Didn’t Know You Needed

Orbitals is a two-player co-op space adventure coming for Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026, developed by Tokyo-based Shapefarm and published by Kepler Interactive. Players take on the roles of Maki and Omura, two inseparable explorers tasked with saving their crumbling space station from a supernatural cosmic storm. The gameplay focuses on cooperative problem solving, exploration, piloting a ship through asteroid fields, and navigating hazardous environments together.

What’s already grabbing people’s attention is the art direction and presentation more than the mechanics shown so far. The visual style feels like a love letter to the anime of yesteryear - expressive character designs, vibrant retro palette, and those real animatic scenes that make it look like a playable animated series rather than a typical 3D game. Fans online are literally saying it resembles the exact era of cartoons they grew up with and are handed goosebumps because of it.

It’s only a one-minute teaser, and we don’t have full gameplay yet, but Orbitals is already capturing nostalgia in a way that feels genuine instead of derivative. It’s not just drawing inspiration, it’s evoking a feeling - the same feeling you get when Interstella 5555 starts with that first note, or when those old TV space openings hit just right.

If this aesthetic and vibe continue to carry through the rest of the game, it could be one of the most memorable co-op adventures in years - an homage to the space fantasies of the past with a modern, interactive twist.
