We are currently having some work done on the outside of my Dad's house. Painting, replacing some wood, and general cleanup. To make it easier to throw away all the junk we had a large

couple of old mattresses in our dumpster. Despite Dad living here for over 40 years we have never met this neighbor and they have been here almost as long. I
  • 06
messaged her back trying to be | neighborly I explained that we planned on using this weekend to finish throwing things away and that if there was room for her mattresses I would let her know

Sunday evening so she could throw them in before pickup on Tuesday. I also asked what size mattresses they were so I could tell if there was room. The messages happened on Thursday

and I never heard back from her. Saturday early afternoon she showed up with 2 single mattresses and 2 guys hauling the mattresses. I asked if I could help her and she said she was

there to dump her mattresses. I explained we were still filling it and that right now I didn't know if there was going to be room for her stuff because I wasn't finished with my stuff yet, and asked if she

had received the message saying I would let her know on Sunday evening and if there was left over room she could throw them in on Monday. She started in about how she doesn't have any help

on Monday and today was the only day she had help. I explained that wasn't my problem my only concern was having room for my stuff since I was the one that paid the $650 for the dumpster. She
  • 12
then whined that she was disabled and didn't have anyone to help on Monday. I told her I was also disabled and what did that have to do with whether or not there was room for her stuff.

She finally left grumbling. The sad thing is that if she had messaged and explained she didn't have help on Monday I would have had the guys working for me get them and throw them away for

her. But just showing up expecting us to just say OK was very entitled and now even if there is room I am not wanting to be a good neighbor any more.

GalwayBoy603 You need to be careful with that. Often, if dumpsters are rented for construction debris you can incur serious extra charges for dumping other stuff in them.
  • 16
CatPerson88 Exactly. If the dumpster is overweight, OP, you have to pay extra. It's not the neighborhood dumpster, it's YOURS. Tell that neighbor just because someone has a dumpster doesn't
  • 17
mean the entire neighborhood can use it, since you/Dad paid for it. Doesn't your town have a large garbage day? Some towns have landfills that are open a few days a month. She needs to do one of those things.
  • 18
do_IT_withme OP We live outside city limits, so we get excluded from big dump days. I told her I paid $650 and if she wanted to share the cost, she could dump them, but she wasn't interested. She just wanted to dump for free on her schedule. I politely told her he'll no.

    Several-Honey-8810 no.
  • 20
do_IT_withme OP My favorite full sentence.
  • 21
CatPerson88 Be careful! Before you have it picked up, make sure she didn't sneak around in the middle of the night and throw them in there. Or that anyone else didn't dump stuff in there.
  • 22
And if she dumps those mattresses, dump them right back on her property. Her old mattresses aren't your problem.
  • 23
do_IT_withme OP That is my plan.
  • 24
mysnappyusername When we had dumpsters to clean out our mom's house, we weren't allowed to put mattresses in the dumpster.
  • 25
do_IT_withme OP I didn't know that, and I just checked the companies website, and it says no mattresses. Thanks for the heads up.
