'I Realized He Was Supposed to Come Home with Me': Shelter Employee Who Rescued Precious Pup Shares His Heartwarming Doggo Journey

Working in an animal shelter is not an easy job, as you often come across some very sad stories. So, it's no wonder that some people feel the need to give these stories a more wholesome ending. But there's nothing more pawsitively heartwarming than seeing a once frightened dog, one who arrived at the shelter in poor health and low weight, transforming into a content pup in their forever home.

This Reddit user shared the touching 'tail' of how they rescued a dog named Charles from the shelter in which they work. This doggo arrived in pretty bad shape, and something just wouldn't let them leave him at the shelter or let anyone else take him in. Once he was taken in, his transformation began and now he looks furbulously happy!

    My childhood dachshund passed when I was away at college a few years ago and I wasn't able to be with him, which has always bothered me. This little man reminded me so much of him that I immediately was drawn to him. After a few weeks, he was ready for foster to finish out his medical hold, and I took him home.

    The first night I came home to him bounding out of his crate, tail wagging and so excited to see me, healed something in me, I think. I only had gum for about two weeks before I went on vacation, where another foster parent was going to be watching him. She picked him up from me and as soon as she left, I started thinking about him getting adopted while I was on vacation and I realized he was supposed to come home with me.

    I went right to adoptions and officially adopted him that day where I learned that an anonymous donor had sponsored his fee. His name is Charles and he's the perfect addition to my crew. I'd love to hear similar stories from shelter workers about animals you just couldn't leave at work!

    Rodney All my three! The two in front are an older bonded pair who were all of about 12kg of bones when they came in, and are the sweetest dogs ever. The girl in the back I raised from 14wks after dumped in a box and she is the devil, but I guess I love her :D
