My kids school used ONLY social media to announce that it was closed today
  • 03
It's her first year at this particular school and nobody said a thing to us about how they announce closures. So we stood outside waiting for the bus for 40 minutes

because the school can't be bothered to send an email, or a text, or a robo call. Not a word about it even on the school or district websites. Nope. Just f'in Facebook.

Edit: the reason was continued power outages around the district from Helene. Edit 2: since it's not obvious that many states were affected by the

hurricane and to varying degrees- we are nowhere near where the hurricane caused any significant damage. It was pretty minor here.

go clean off the cars and shovel the driveway. All that being said, why only Facebook? I got rid of my account a few years ago and have zero intention of getting another.

houseofnim OP • 16h ago I honestly have no idea why it was only Facebook. The school uses one of the school parent communication apps and they didn't even use that to make the announcement. I had to start mine back up this morning

after finding the post through Google search results so we don't end up standing outside for no reason like a bunch of dolts again. I genuinely did not think there would be any issue with the schools today. We are over 800 miles from where it made landfall so we didn't get hit that badly.

MarsMonkey88 • 16h ago • You said it's due to power outages from the storm: is it possible that their schools email server or their robo-call platform were compromised by the outage?

houseofnim OP • 16h ago It's possible. The thing that really grinds my gears about it though is that nobody told us that they use Facebook for important announcements like this. A heads up would have been cool. Maybe a little blurb in the school handbook. Idk. At least I know now that they do this though.

The69BodyProblem 16h ago • What about people that dont use Facebook? Youd think they could send out an email or at least put it on their website. It be pand as h 'l if this happened to me.

houseofnim OP • 16h ago • Right, like I refuse to believe that even the superintendent can't access the district website outside of district facilities. I'm more baffled than anything tbh. I just can't find any reason in this.
