This week, we lost an absolute legend. Actress Maggie Smith, best known for her roles in Downtown Abbey and Harry Potter, died on September 27th at the age of 89. Any Potterhead worth their salt knows that the series wouldn't have been what it was without her involvement. She and Richard Harris were both incredibly famous prestige actors when they signed on to be in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, and without them, there would've been nobody around to add some good acting to the amateurish child acting that was happening onscreen. Maggie was dazzling in her portrayal of Professor McGonagall, and anyone who says they don't get misty-eyed when she protects Hogwarts in Deathly Hallows Part 2 is lying to themselves. Maggie lived a long, wonderful life and touched everybody lucky enough to see her acting onscreen and onstage.
