It would be nice to think that despite all the time we spend looking at easily digestible internet humor, we were somewhat cultured, and some memes do attempt to encourage this point of view. I mean, you get clever memes, ones that make references to philosophy, even ones that dig deep into the annals of meme history to make something so referential you practically need a PhD to decipher it. If you care about the practice of memeing, it is possible to argue that there are indeed some types of memes out there that are truly great. You may not think that about those that can be found here, but perhaps some of them were intended to ascend to that higher level, or they do in someone else's mind. It also doesn't really matter because their main reason for existence will always be entertainment, something they usually manage to succeed at no matter what.
