Most people use this as a reminder to not let go of one good thing without having another lined up, usually in the context of work – don't leave your current place of work without having something else a hand, but this story proves that some people use this rule for something else entirely.
For example, people who tend to cheat. I would imagine cheaters use this analogy for their dating life–they never let go of a current relationship without having a firm grip on another one, which is a terrible use of great advice. I am sure we can all agree that people who think like that do not deserve much sympathy, especially not when Karma finds its way back to them and they get a taste of their own medicine.
In this story, a man cheated with his now-wife, only to be later cheated on by her. His sister (the original poster) relished that he got what he deserved and refused to show him any sympathy, which led to a big family feud.
