The days leading up to Halloween are for horror movie marathons, watched by devoted cinephiles who thoroughly enjoy the horror genre. What's not to love? You have psychopaths, unsuspecting victims, and pretty good plot points across the board. One movie in particular stands out every Halloween because it's a cult classic: The Shining, Stanley Kubrick's film adaptation of the novel of the same name, written by Stephen King. But you knew that already, didn't you?
Horror fans around the world adore the film because it represents psychopathy to the extreme, and Jack Nicholson embodies the character of Jack Torrance exceptionally well. Shelley Duvall, too, is amazing in the role of Wendy, scaring audience members with her splitting screams and believable fear as her husband falls deeper into insanity. The movie is a classic for a reason, but folks haven't decided if the book or the movie is better. King himself said he didn't like Kubrick's adaptation, but the film is still a massive hit (especially around spooky season). What do you think?
