This is so accurate that it has given us the impetus to go ahead and put a sign on the door saying "Do not ring doorbell, hoomans have become fearful of the doorbell, text or call the hoomans inside if you want access to the house". That way, anyone who has no business being at your door has no way to grab your attention and you do not have to have uncomfortable confrontations at your door.
