President Obama talked gay marriage with the ladies of The View this morning, and though he declined to say whether he would publicly fight federal laws that limit the rights of gay and lesbian couples, he told co-host Barbara Walters "we don't think the Defense of Marriage Act is constitutional."

Congress is clearly on notice that I think it's a bad idea. This is going to be a big contrast in the campaign because you've got Governor [Mitt] Romney saying we should actually have a constitutional amendment installing the notion that you can't have same-sex marriages.

In a lighter moment, co-host Joy Behar asked Obama whether he knew about "the controversial sex book" Fifty Shades of Grey, which is topping best-seller lists across the country. The president admitted he did not know, but promised, "I'll ask Michelle when I get home." [towleroad]
