Every Friendsgiving, my best friend's cat, Charlie, becomes the main character of the evening. Last year, while the turkey was resting on the counter and we were already on our second glass of wine, he decided it was his moment to shine. With the stealth of a ninja and the camouflage of a true void, he leaped onto the counter and dragged the drumstick off the platter like he was claiming it as his piece. Cue the chaos of my friend group. I'm chasing him around the kitchen, my best friend is yelling like a madwoman, all while he's prancing away with the turkey leg clamped firmly in his jaws. We were laughing so hard we were crying, phones out, documenting his hooman's humiliation. Charlie eventually dropped the leg (unscathed, thank goodness), but not before licking it for good measure. Because clearly, he is the ruler of the household. This year, we've learned my lesson. The turkey stays locked in the oven until the last second.
