I have helped rescue cats at work before, there is a large field behind our business, so I am known as the cat lady. I am allergic to cats and have homed all the kittens I have rescues and neutered the feral cats and released them.

So when a girl at work phoned me she has a kitten in her engine bay who had travelled from her home to work and now was trapped in there, I had to help.

She was under the engine, meowing away, but so little. She had obviously climbed in there for warmth and dryness. After getting under the car, she popped up above the engine and I was able to scruff her. She came out fighting but 5 minutes later was happily snuggling into my neck.

I phoned all of the places I know, having done this before and it's kitten season, so everyone was full and the only option was place that unfortunately it they are full the kittens future is not the best. So I phoned my bf and he took her home and locked her in a spare room.

Now we have dogs on property, I am allergic so we went about looking for a home for her. We took her to the vet, she was 5 weeks old, and scared of human interaction, hiding in the Christmas tree of the spare room. Fast forward a week, vet visit 2 and the difference is notable.

She's been moved into the flat downstairs, so she can see outside, has the run of the space, she's met with the dogs and she absolutely loves humans and I just have to deal on my side. She's such a sweetie. Then I found out we rescued her the day my sister had to put down my late mom's cat.

Not sure if she will be ours, but right now, she is safe, fed and needs not climb into any engine bays.

Twigster21 OP • 7d ago Yes, on meds as much as I can be and my boyfriend has been forced to love her (and any and all neighbours I can find that want to have a snuggle with a kitten).

I've been around cats all of my life, but every time we get a new foster cat or litter, I am messed up for about a week with the itchies. Then it subsides. I sometimes wonder if people allergic to cats maybe need to give it a few weeks to see if it gets better?

Twigster21 OP • 7d ago You are right, I do get better. Took 6 months with the first rescue cat. Also some amazing suggestions in the chat to try alleviate the reaction.
