You can't make this up! Saturday night/sunday morning, in the wee hours of the morning it was 16 degrees Fahrenheit. I'm a nightwatch on a horse farm and I was walking along the fence looking at my horses when I spotted eyes reflecting back at me from the top of a fence post.

Not entirely abnormal with raccoons and such so | keep walking. I get closer and they don't move and just keep watching. I get closer and start talking asking what it was. It was cat. He was hunched over, thin coat, shivering with frost on his fur. He was frozen to the top of the post.

I got warm water and got his feet off and took him to one of the barns where the day shift crazy cat lady is. We get him set up in a heated room, food, water and a bed.

We have a microchip scanner for the horses so for fun and giggles she ran it on him the next day. It came up with a number and the "feline" code.
  • 07
The plan was to call animal control when they open the 26 to run the number until somebody on facebook said "Try Pet Link." I found a match. His name is Nugget.
  • 08
I fill out the found form and 45 minutes later I get a phone call from the owner.

Nugget was strictly an indoor cat that escaped. He was from the next town over, about 5 or so miles away. He had been missing for around 3 weeks... his children have been asking every day since he's been gone if they've found Nugget yet.

I sent him home last night on Christmas eve. Merry Christmas everybody. And remember to update your tags and chips regularly. They may very well save a life

I can't imagine how it made you feel ! Scared at first I'm sure for the poor baby frozen to the post, but also relieved knowing you were there to help! Like awe this is so sweet I wanna cry and I am surprised I'm not crying!

He wouldn't look at me for a little bit then the next day I was sitting in the stall with him and when he got comfortable he started running around. He'd jump on my lap, reach up and touch my face and start running again. He was the sweetest thing. If I couldn't find his owner, he was coming home with me

Good morning! Merry Christmas to you, too! The kids absolutely loved it. Two of my three kids teared up. They all just cuddled with him, and Nugget seemed to love it, too. Thank you so much for reaching out. My family is very thankful that Nugget was able to return home. + Messa How wonderful, thank you for the update! Give everyone my best and merry christmas again! I got an update G.

freerangechick3n • 3d ago All five of my indoor boys are chipped. Our local shelter says that the only stray cats who ever get returned to their owners are the ones who are chipped. This story is such a good reminder of how important it is!

arachnid-feline OP • 3d ago That's what I told the owner. He said "we really didn't think it was that important since they're all inside cats but NOW everybody is getting theirs updated!" Good call, bud
