The new year is upon us, and you know what that means! It's time to see what historical events referenced in Star Trek did not occur in 2024! This year, that answer isn't that hard to find. Lieutenant Commander Data referenced the Irish Reunification of 2024 in the episode "The High Ground." This line got the episode removed from its first run in the UK, and to this day, some networks refuse to syndicate it. It broadcast on the BBC for the first time 17 years after its initial release because it was so controversial

The most famous 2024 episode comes from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. "Past Tense" follows Commander Sisko, Dr. Bashir, and Jadzia Dax as they materialize in 2024 San Fransisco and find themselves in a walled-off homeless district on the eve of a history-making riot. While a famous riot with those details didn't happen last year, it's always interesting to see where Star Trek thought we would be at this time. The only notable Star Trek event to happen in 2025 is related to the interplanetary baseball league, so I wonder if real life will supersede the events of the canon. If you think real life is stranger than fiction, these Star Trek memes will be stranger than real life.
