The Most Entertaining Parenting Texts of the Week (January 14, 2025)

Some parents are the funniest texters. One time, my mom texted me to let me know that the dog I performed in a community theater production of Anything Goes with in 2017 had sadly passed away. That's the kind of news only your mom would text, and I'm always grateful for the hilariously random things she sends. 

Parents of a certain age have a funny way of breaking news over text. They will straight-up message you, "Can we talk? It's important," or "Tell me when you get home from work; I need to call you," just to tell you that your brother got a new trash can that she thinks would work well in your apartment too. You're not supposed to text "We need to talk" unless something incredibly grave is afoot, and it can be sort of difficult for our Gen X and Baby Boomer parents to understand that.

  • Not all parenting texts are of the silly and fun variety. Adult children have taken to the internet to share wild and out-of-pocket things their parents decided to send over iMessage. Although these parenting texts are highly entertaining, they're not the kinds of things you'd want to come through your phone.

    My (18F) father, whom i live separately from geeks tf out because I did not help him unload his truck (something he is able to do on his own accord, but I usually help him with when I can) because I was working (doordashing). He obviously doesn't think of doordash as a job but that's how I pay my bills so.     these barrage of messages cursing me for not dropping everything I was doing to help him. This is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to his behavior. For reference the first screenshot is the same day (Sunday) as the second ss and all group chat ones preceding it. The few of us one on one are from today.     own sh that i deal with, I don't tell you my issues because they are MINE to deal with. The fact that you are a fully grown adult and dropping all of your trauma onto a 15 year old says a lot. I know that its hard, to have that much stuff on your shoulders, but thats why there are professionals for this kind of stuff.
